Batman 2 Update: Exciting and Disappointing News for Robert Pattinson’s Anticipated Sequel!

In a classic rollercoaster of emotions, Matt Reeves made a big splash this Wednesday, July 15. As he did with the first installment of his DC saga, the director didn’t wait until the end of filming to release footage of the sequel to The Batman: a brief teaser titled “Camera Test” confirming that this chapter will largely take place in a snowy setting and reaffirming Robert Pattinson’s return in the suit… with an unfortunate little surprise at the end.

Yes, there’s the logo, slightly altered from the first film with changes to the size of the bat’s head and ears, and a U.S. release date. Not October 1, 2027, but… February 18, 2028 (likely two days earlier in France). This isn’t the first delay for The Batman – Part II, to the point where fans aren’t fazed by another four-month wait, but it’s undeniable that this one will sting a bit more.

Previously, changes to the release date were made to allow Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin time to refine the script rather than rush into producing a potentially flawed film that would need rewrites during filming, a common issue with too many blockbusters today, or to accommodate Robert Pattinson’s paternity leave and his need to step away from the set for a while. Since filming had just started, hopes were high that this time would be different, but alas, no.

J.J. Abrams’ Return Also Delayed

This delay, according to Deadline, is due to a (new) major reshuffling in Warner’s schedule, notably the delay of J.J. Abrams’ The Great Beyond, starring Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega, from November 2026 to October 2027, which pushed Batman to 2028. And the teaser, backed by Michael Giacchino’s stunning theme music, does little to alleviate the frustration it inevitably causes, giving us no clues about the villains in this sequel, with no confirmations given to date.

It’s clear that Matt Reeves is testing our patience with the sequel to his excellent first installment, let’s hope it will be worth the wait… in a year and a half.
