Gilles Lellouche Claps Back at Télérama’s Take on Actor Overrepresentation in French Cinema!

Télérama magazine’s recent focus on the overrepresentation of certain actors in French cinema sparked significant reactions. Gilles Lellouche shared his thoughts on the topic during an appearance on the show “C à vous”.

Last week, Télérama stirred emotions with its cover featuring several prominent French cinema actors (Adèle Exarchopoulos, Virginie Efira, Pierre Niney, Gilles Lellouche), posing the question: “Where are the new faces?”

The article, titled online as “Pierre Niney, Virginie Efira… Why does French cinema always rotate the same heads,” particularly discusses A-list actors, those in high demand at the moment, who can trigger financing when announced in a film’s cast. It addresses not only the number of films but also issues related to promotion and media visibility.

While promoting “The Crime on the 3rd Floor” on “C à vous” last night, Gilles Lellouche expressed his opinion about the magazine’s cover. “I didn’t take it badly, I thought they were completely off the mark!”

He added, “Where are the new faces? We are actually in an era of cinema with many emerging figures. There are young female directors, young male directors, young actresses, young actors. There are really a lot, and that’s a good thing.”

He mentioned, “There were two main ones featured in ‘Crazy Love’, two teenagers that nobody knew about for an hour and a half (Malik Frikah and Mallory Wanecque, Ed.). And on average, I make one film a year. There are 250 made in France, so that’s 249 without me. Apparently, you can slip through the net.”
