Iconic Character Returns to Cinema After 15 Years: Exclusive Film Details Revealed!

During the promotional activities for “It’s a Mad World!”, Michaël Youn shared some exclusive details about “Fatal 2,” the sequel to his hit 2010 comedy.

In July 2024, Michaël Youn announced the long-awaited production of Fatal 2, the follow-up to the 2010 comedy that quickly became a cult favorite after drawing more than 1.5 million viewers to theaters. Fatal, Youn’s directorial debut, features Fatal Bazooka, a bling-bling, hardcore rapper. With millions of fans, dozens of hits, and four Music Awards for Best Artist of the Year, he is the undisputed number one. Although everything seems fine on the surface, Fatal is lost because he doesn’t remember his roots: he has always pretended to have grown up in the ghetto, whereas he was actually born in a small village in Savoie, in the heart of the Alps. Everything changes with the arrival of singer Chris Prolls. The film was inspired by the band of the same name that Michaël Youn started with Vincent Desagnat and Benjamin Morgaine in 2002 on the M6 show Morning Live.

Having been in the works for many years, Fatal 2 is finally set to be made. At the premiere of Nicolas Vanier’s comedy, “It’s a Mad World!”, we spoke with Michaël Youn about Fatal 2. The actor, comedian, singer, and director gave us more insight into the movie’s plot, title, and his enthusiasm for reprising his role as the rapper.

What is Fatal 2 About?

“I realized that the character never left me over these years. I continue to tour as a singer and perform as Fatal Bazooka everywhere. Initially, it was at small events, and now I perform at festivals with 80,000 people. The character has lived on by itself without me.

Then, I met up with Alain Goldman, the producer of the original Fatal movie. We wanted to work together again and discussed several projects. He suggested: ‘What if we did Fatal 2?’ I said: ‘No, forget it, I’ve been asked about it 10 times already, and I don’t have any ideas. But, imagine coming back 15 years later, saying the guy was in a coma and wakes up today.’ And then, he looks at me and says: ‘That’s brilliant! Imagine, 15 years after Fatal… And we call it Bazooka’.”

It’s thrilling to dive back into true, hard-hitting comedy.

Michaël Youn adds, “We were captivated by the story, which is so silly and brings us so much joy. It’s thrilling to dive back into true, hard-hitting comedy. What I refer to, and mean no disrespect by, as ‘stupid comedy’—something I really enjoy. It’s the type of comedy done well by Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, and also by the Fifi crew. I absolutely love it. In ‘stupid,’ there’s no condescension from me at all.”

Has Fatal Bazooka Changed?

“So, diving back into this and getting to write music again with my buddies—creating tracks that are both catchy and ridiculous—is extremely satisfying. And I’m not doing it for the wrong reasons. If I had made a sequel three or four years after Fatal, you might think, ‘Okay, it worked, let’s make another.’ But now, we really want to entertain people, make ourselves laugh, revisit this character, and see how he’s evolved.

Actually, he hasn’t evolved. And today, in a much more woke world, Fatal, with his boomer misogynistic, homophobic, hardcore rapper reflexes, is not going to fit in. And that’s going to be hilarious. It’s going to be cool.”

As you can see, the performer of “Fous ta cagoule” hasn’t changed and will have to adapt to the world of 2024. The filming of Bazooka is scheduled for 2025 with a likely release in 2026. In the meantime, Michaël Youn stars in Nicolas Vanier’s comedy, It’s a Mad World!, alongside Eric Elmosnino.
