Jason Momoa Goes Green in Action-Packed New Street Fighter Trailer!

Get ready for a flurry of punches in the new movie adaptation of the video game “Street Fighter,” whose trailer has just been released. Expect action, nods to the original, karaoke, and a green Jason Momoa.

The tournament is on… and Jason Momoa is turning green! The star of Aquaman and Dune is set to bring his rugged charm and beastly demeanor to Blanka, the iconic video game character from Street Fighter. This marks a cinematic return for the franchise, thirty-two years after a version starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Kylie Minogue, and the late Raul Julia, which, unfortunately, did not leave a memorable mark for the right reasons.

Directed by Kitao Sakurai, known for his work on episodes of Twisted Metal and Dave, this new film promises to be far more intense. The latest visuals confirm this with a barrage of punishing blows (balanced with a touch of humor from Noah Centineo’s Ken), amid numerous references from the authentic look of the fighters to destroying a car with your feet, not to mention the iconic “Hadouken” from Ryu (Andrew Koji).

But there’s more than just action in this trailer, as it also teases the plot which sees Chun-Li (Callina Liang, seen in Steven Soderbergh’s Presence) gathering the best fighters to participate in a tournament organized by the formidable Mr. Bison (David Dastmalchian), and attempts to reconcile Ken and Ryu, former friends who have clearly had a falling out and lost touch.

Big Bison

Guile, Vega, Balrog, Zangief, Honda, and of course, Blanka: the roster of opponents is extensive in this film set in 1993, two years after the release of “Street Fighter II,” the game that secured its place in pop culture. The movie, set for release on October 14, could follow the same successful path as the Mortal Kombat reboot, whose sequel is due on May 6 in France.

Between this film and Zach Cregger’s reinterpretation of Resident Evil, expected on September 16, Capcom, their shared publisher, is poised for a strong autumn in global cinemas. Ready?
