Last night, France 2 aired Denis Imbert’s film “Sur les chemins noirs” starring Jean Dujardin. This provides a great opportunity to look into the upcoming cinematic projects of the Oscar-winning French actor.
Released in 2023, “Sur les chemins noirs” by Denis Imbert is based on the book of the same name by Sylvain Tesson.
Jean Dujardin plays Pierre, a renowned and alcoholic writer who, after a fall that leaves him in a coma, decides upon waking — despite lingering effects and against medical advice — to walk across France using only small paths. This journey allows him to delve back into his troubled past and contemplate the meaning of his life.
The film was re-aired last night on France 2, marking a good moment to discuss the actor’s future projects.
Reunion with Jan Kounen
Starting October 29th, Jean Dujardin will make a significant return to the big screen following a two-year hiatus, in Jan Kounen’s “L’Homme qui rétrécit.”
This marks the third collaboration between the actor and the filmmaker, following “99 Francs” (2007) and “Les Infidèles” (2012).
Based on the classic 1956 novel by Richard Matheson, this science fiction story features Paul, who is contaminated by a mysterious substance causing him to gradually shrink. Faced with a suddenly hostile world, threatened by animals and insects, he struggles to survive while questioning his identity and place in the universe. This film is the second adaptation of the novel, which was previously made into a movie in 1957 by Jack Arnold.
First Collaboration with Xavier Giannoli
Jean Dujardin will also star in the upcoming film by Xavier Giannoli.
Following his 2022 César Award for Best Adaptation for “Illusions perdues,” the filmmaker is preparing his next feature film, “Des rayons et des ombres.”
For the first time, Jean Dujardin will act under his direction, playing Jean Luchaire, a leftist newspaper owner who became a notable figure in the collaboration during the Occupation. Arrested in Italy, he was sentenced to death and executed in February 1946. A few months later, his eldest daughter, Corinne, who had fled with him, appeared before the Civic Chamber of the Seine Department and was sentenced to ten years of national indignity.
Jean Dujardin will share the screen with Nastya Golubeva Carax and August Diehl. No release date has been announced yet, but filming reportedly concluded last July.
A New Adaptation of an Autobiographical Tale
Jean Dujardin will next be seen in Cyril Gelblat’s upcoming film “Montagnes russes,” whose release date has yet to be announced. The film is very loosely based on the book by Jean Albou, “A Madman in Art – Confessions of a Serial Collector“.
The screenplay is co-written by Sarah Kaminsky and Cyril Gelblat, based on an original idea by Sarah Kaminsky and Laetitia Colombani. The story follows a man navigating the contemporary art world, confronting his vulnerabilities and dark sides, as well as the strength of a love marked by bipolar disorder. Jean Dujardin will take on this demanding lead role during a shoot scheduled between February and March 2026.
