In a recent interview on Hits Radio, Andrew Garfield disclosed that the iconic scene of the three Spider-Men conversing in “No Way Home” was improvised.
How does one care for their back while swinging from a web? Why are some able to produce webbing directly from their wrists while others have to manufacture it? What are some of the strangest supervillains they’ve faced?
The Trio of Spider-Men United in One Scene
These existential questions, at least for someone embodying Spider-Man, were shared among the three Peter Parkers played by Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland prior to the ultimate battle in No Way Home, as they awaited their foes beneath the Statue of Liberty.
This humorous and quirky sequence, which delighted millions of fans, was not scripted in the original movie screenplay, at least not in any specific way, as recently revealed by Andrew Garfield during his interview on Hits Radio.
“All of that was improvised,” shared the star of The Amazing Spider-Man.
“It was really meta, very personal, and just perfect”
“The idea was that we just wanted to see the three Spider-Men chatting about their experiences and sharing their thoughts. We decided to shoot long takes and see if anything good came out of it. And we were spoiled for choice. That moment struck me. I thought, ‘Oh, that was cool!’ And hearing the same from Tobey [Maguire], who was the Spider-Man I grew up with, it was really meta, very personal and perfect. I was truly, truly happy to be part of that adventure.”
Besides achieving the feat of bringing the three Spider-Men together in one film, Marvel maximized the concept by arranging this mini FAQ session among the Web-Slingers.
Will the three heroes share the screen again in upcoming MCU films, perhaps in Spider-Man: Brand New Day or Avengers Doomsday? What do you think?
