New Spider-Man Movie in Development Without Tom Holland!

The Spider-Man saga continues to expand! While Tom Holland’s fourth film as the iconic web-slinger is currently being filmed, Sony is also developing a new animated feature within the Spider-Man universe.

Is there ever a point where Spider-Man will fade from popularity? It seems unlikely, and in the meantime, Sony, which holds the adaptation rights to the character, is making the most of it. Alongside the various live-action films starring Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland, the studio has successfully launched an animated franchise that has been both a critical and commercial hit.

A Breathtaking Franchise

Both “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” (2018) and its sequel “Across The Spider-Verse” (2023) have wowed audiences, each earning a 4.4 out of 5 rating from AlloCiné viewers. The films are celebrated for their high-quality animation that makes viewers feel as if a comic book has come to life.

The movies are visually stunning and narratively ambitious, centering not on Peter Parker, but on Miles Morales, a Black Hispanic teenager who becomes Spider-Man in his own universe. He then meets many other versions of the hero from different universes, including Hobie Brown, also known as Spider-Punk, in the second film.

According to Deadline, Spider-Punk, a character with an anarchic streak that seems straight out of the 1980s and who has captivated audiences with his laid-back attitude and radical ideas, is set to star in his own feature film. The project will be penned by Daniel Kaluuya (who voices him in “Across The Spider-Verse” and its upcoming sequel, “Beyond The Spider-Verse,” expected in 2027) and Ajon Singh.

Not the Only Spin-off in the Works

Little else is known about this exciting project, other than it will be produced by the team behind the Spider-Verse franchise: Amy Pascal, Christopher Miller, and Phil Lord. This isn’t the only derivative work from the trilogy currently in development, as a live-action series about the character Spider-Noir, seen in “Into the Spider-Verse” and portrayed by Nicolas Cage, has been filmed for upcoming release on Prime Video.

Fans won’t have to wait long to see Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in action again either, as “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is currently being filmed on the streets of Glasgow under the direction of Destin Daniel Cretton (“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”) with a theatrical release scheduled for July 29, 2026.

Here’s the trailer for “Across The Spider-Verse,” which marks the first appearance of Spider-Punk on screen:
