Marvel Series Renewed for Season 3 Despite Low 4.1 Rating – Why?

What is Disney doing with its Marvel series? Despite the lukewarm reception of the Hell’s Kitchen superhero revival, the platform has decided to greenlight a third season.

And just like that, a third season for Daredevil: Born Again. Only six months after the revival hit Disney+, the mouse-eared giant has renewed its superhero series, even before the second season has aired. This move signals a strong vote of confidence in the creative team, despite only moderate viewership figures.

Despite an impressive launch with 7.5 million viewers according to Disney, and receiving high praise from critics and audiences alike (scoring 4.1 out of 5 on AlloCiné), the weekly rollout of Daredevil: Born Again was not as favorable. Week by week, the series struggled to make it into the top 10 most-watched titles in the United States (according to Nielsen).

A Superior Second Season?

Disney executives are likely banking on the second season of Daredevil: Born Again to elevate the quality and win everyone over. Slated for release in March 2026, it will also see the return of a Defenders member, the formidable Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), whose help will be more than necessary.

At the end of season two, faced with the overwhelming power of Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) who has the city and the police in his pocket, Matt Murdock decides to step back into the spotlight as Daredevil and “reclaim” his city.

He finds several allies at Josie’s, including Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and a few cops who refuse to be corrupted. They are expected to be joined by Frank Castle aka the Punisher (Jon Bernthal), who has escaped from Fisk’s prison.

In an interview with The Playlist, Charlie Cox (Matt) expressed his excitement about season two: “I don’t want to give too much away. I genuinely think it’s some of the best writing we’ve ever had on this show. The writers have developed characters who, in the previous version of the series, were often overlooked.”

A Third Season Full of Perils

Interestingly, this marks the first time Marvel has approved a third season for a superhero series on Disney+. In order not to keep fans waiting too long between seasons, production is set to commence next year, with a likely release in 2027.

It’s still too early to predict what season three of Daredevil: Born Again will entail, but hopes are high to see the Defenders team reunited, including the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.

The viewership of the series will be closely monitored by the top brass at Marvel, and if the numbers don’t meet expectations, the studio always has the option to retract the renewal. Nothing is truly set in stone.
