Take a closer look at the delightful comedy “#Chef,” directed and starred in by Jon Favreau of Marvel Cinematic Universe fame. A perfect entertainment choice now streaming on Netflix.
How about spending your evening watching a charming comedy that will leave you hungry? Sounds tempting, right? Head over to Netflix to enjoy #Chef, a film directed and starred in by Jon Favreau, who you might recognize as Happy Hogan from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film also features a stellar cast including Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Sofía Vergara, Dustin Hoffman, and John Leguizamo.
Released in theaters nearly a decade ago, #Chef tells the story of Carl Casper, a head chef who suddenly quits his job rather than compromise his creative integrity due to the owner’s decisions. Faced with what to do next, he ends up in Miami, teaming up with his ex-wife, a close friend, and his son to start a food truck. As they hit the road, Carl goes back to his roots, rediscovering his passion for cooking, and adds a dash of life and love to his journey.
A prominent figure in Marvel (having directed Iron Man and portrayed Happy Hogan in the MCU), Jon Favreau chose to return to independent filmmaking with a project close to his heart: the culinary world. And rightly so, as #Chef is a delightful success, a refreshing culinary road movie brimming with energy that will definitely make you hungry (watch out for those spaghetti aglio e olio scenes!).
Jon Favreau Teams Up with a Street-Food King!
“I noticed many similarities between the worlds of film and cooking,” says Jon Favreau. “In both, it’s all about creativity. And #Chef showcases a character in search of his own creativity.”
To thoroughly research street-food culture, Jon Favreau enlisted the help of Korean-American Roy Choi, a king of this culinary domain in Los Angeles. Favreau even worked incognito in Choi’s kitchen to learn the craft. “On the first day, I thought it was cramped and unbearably hot, and I felt like I was in the way,” he recalls. “But by the end of my training, I was calling out orders and assisting in the kitchen.”
Somewhat overlooked upon its theatrical release, #Chef is a mouthwatering entertainment that’s well worth (re)discovering. Ready to indulge in this tasty treat on Netflix?
