“Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Harvest” is set to hit theaters on November 18, 2026. The filming of the new prequel to Katniss’s adventures is about to start, and the cast is expanding daily. Here are all the actors announced for the film.
Since the beginning of April, the cast for the new Hunger Games film titled Sunrise on the Harvest has been growing. With two new actresses recently revealed, let’s take a look at the fresh faces who will be the new heroes of this movie.
The sixth installment of the $3.3 billion franchise, based on Suzanne Collins’s dystopian novels, is set 40 years after the events of the spin-off “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” starring Rachel Zegler and Tom Blyth, and 24 years before the events of the original Hunger Games, which followed Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence). The plot will focus on Haymitch Abernathy (previously portrayed by Woody Harrelson), the future mentor of Katniss…
What’s the Film About?
As dawn breaks over the 50th annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, to honor the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be chosen. In District 12, Haymitch Abernathy tries not to think about his odds. All that matters to him is being with the girl he loves. But when he is called, all his dreams are shattered. Torn from his family and love, he is transported to the Capitol with the three other tributes from District 12: a young friend almost like a sister, a compulsive gambler, and the most pretentious girl in town. As the Games begin, Haymitch realizes he has been set up to fail. But he is ready to fight… and ensure that this fight echoes beyond the arena.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, who also helmed the previous installments, and written by Billy Ray, who worked on the first film of the franchise, “Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Harvest” will release on November 18, 2026.
Haymitch Abernathy: Joseph Zada
Joseph Zada, a 20-year-old Australian actor, has made his mark in Australian series Total Control and Invisible Boys. Sunrise on the Harvest is his first major international project, where he plays Haymitch Abernathy, a role previously held by Woody Harrelson. In this film, we see Haymitch as a teenager living in District 12 with his mother and younger brother, in love with Lenore Dove Baird, chosen for the 50th Hunger Games in place of another boy from his district killed by peacekeepers while trying to escape.
Lenore Dove Baird: Whitney Peak
Whitney Peak portrays Lenore Dove, Haymitch’s fiancée. The 22-year-old Canadian-Ugandan actress is known for her roles in Aaron Sorkin’s The Big Game, Hocus Pocus 2, and the series The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. However, it was her role as Zoya Lott in the Gossip Girl reboot that made her famous, where she played one of the lead characters. Her character in Hunger Games is 16 years old and belongs to the Coveys, a group of musicians and singers which also included Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Maysilee Donner: McKenna Grace
Actress and singer McKenna Grace will portray Maysilee Donner, a tribute from District 12 who allies with Haymitch during the Games. Her fate is intertwined with Katniss’s, as she is the best friend of Astrid, the future mother of the saga’s original heroine. She was also the first to wear the mockingjay pin, which would later become Katniss’s symbol and a sign of the second revolution against the Capitol. At 18 years old, McKenna Grace has been in the industry for 13 years, first appearing on TV in The Young and the Restless and in the film Gifted alongside Chris Evans. She has since appeared in Amityville: The Awakening, I, Tonya, Young Sheldon, Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting of Hill House, portrayed a young Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel, was featured in Annabelle Comes Home and The Handmaid’s Tale, and gained widespread recognition for her role as Phoebe in the new Ghostbusters films. She will soon appear in Scream 7.
Plutarch Heavensbee: Jesse Plemons
American actor Jesse Plemons (married to Kirsten Dunst in real life) takes on the challenging role of Plutarch Heavensbee, originally played by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. In Sunrise on the Harvest, Plutarch is the director of the Capitol’s film crew, accompanying Drusilla across various districts to document events and profile the tributes. At 37 years old, Jesse Plemons has been acting for 25 years, recently seen in Civil War, The Power of the Dog, Jungle Cruise, The Irishman, and the series Black Mirror and Zero Day. In 2024, he received the Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival for his role in Kinds of Kindness by Yorgos Lanthimos.
Beetee Latier: Kelvin Harrison Jr.
American actor Kelvin Harrison Jr., 30, portrays Beetee Latier, an electronics expert in Sunrise on the Harvest, a role previously held by Jeffrey Wright. In this installment, set 40 years before Katniss’s rise, Beetee, a former winner of the 34th Hunger Games, is punished for sabotaging the Capitol’s communication systems. The President then forces his son Ampert to participate in the 50th Hunger Games, where he allies with Haymitch. Kelvin Harrison Jr. recently lent his voice to Taka in the original version of Mufasa: The Lion King. He has also appeared in It Comes at Night, Assassination Nation, Waves, Godfather of Harlem, and portrayed B.B. King in Elvis.
Wiress: Maya Hawke
Fans of Stranger Things know her well! Maya Hawke, daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, joins the dystopian saga as Wiress, a role previously held by Amanda Plummer (who also starred alongside Uma Thurman in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction). Wiress, from District 3 like Beetee (her mentor), won the 49th Hunger Games and becomes a mentor herself, alongside Mags, for the District 12 tributes during the 50th Hunger Games. She remains a loyal ally to Haymitch, Mags, and Beetee in future games. After starting her career as a model, Maya Hawke made her mark with her role as Robin in the hit series Stranger Things. That same year, she landed a minor role in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. She then appeared in the Netflix films Fear Street and Do Revenge. In 2023, she walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival for Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City and lent her voice to Anxiety in the original version of Inside Out 2. She is expected to appear in the castings of Billy Wilder by Stephen Frears and the biopic Lucia by Aisling Walsh.
Mags: Lili Taylor
Actress Lili Taylor takes on the role of Mags, the eldest of the tributes, previously portrayed by the late Lynn Cohen. Drawn at the age of 16 to compete in the 11th Hunger Games, which she won, Mags became the first victor from District 4. During the 50th Hunger Games, she serves as a mentor to the four tributes from District 12 alongside Wiress. Later, she coaches Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin) and volunteers during the 75th Hunger Games, which reunite various past winners, to replace Annie, Finnick’s true love. She dies in the arena at the age of 80. Lili Taylor made her screen debut in 1988 and has appeared in cult films like Born on the Fourth of July and Arizona Dream. Later, she portrayed Lisa in the hit series Six Feet Under, Maldonado in Almost Human, played Sheriff Lillian Holley in Michael Mann’s Public Enemies, and called upon the Warrens in the first film of the successful Conjuring series: The Conjuring.
Wyatt Callow: Ben Wang
Expected this summer in the cast of Karate Kid: Legends, actor Ben Wang has been cast to play Wyatt Callow, the first tribute from District 12 to be harvested. The reticent young man will form an alliance with Haymitch in the arena. At 25 years old, Ben Wang debuted in the series American Born Chinese alongside Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Chris Han. He has also appeared in Good Egg, The Gamble of Chang, and Sight. On October 1, he will star in the film by Francis Lawrence—the director of the Hunger Games saga—The Long Walk, adapted from the novel by Stephen King. This will be his second collaboration with the director.
Coriolanus Snow: Ralph Fiennes
Following Donald Sutherland in the original saga and Tom Blyth in the prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, British actor Ralph Fiennes will portray President of Panem, Coriolanus Snow, in Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Harvest. This is the second time the actor plays the major antagonist of a successful franchise after portraying Voldemort in Harry Potter. Ralph Fiennes has also played M in the James Bond saga. He was recently featured in The Forgiven and will appear in 28 Years Later starting in June.
Loulou: Iona Bell
Young British actress Iona Bell has been chosen to portray Loulou. The girl made her first screen appearance in Jeffrey Walker’s family film Fing!, set to release in 2026. A tribute from District 11, Loulou is considered a traitor and trained by the Capitol to imitate Louella McCoy…
Louella McCoy: Molly McCann
And it is indeed young Irish actress Molly McCann who will portray Louella McCoy on screen. A neighbor of Haymitch, the young girl is drawn during the 50th harvest. Molly McCann has previously appeared in Vivarium, My Sailor, My Love, and Freelance alongside John Cena.
