Netflix’s New “Ozark” is Here, From the Creator of Dawson and Scream!

On June 19, Netflix subscribers will have the chance to binge-watch “The Waterfront,” a drama series created by Kevin Williamson (Scream, Dawson’s Creek), which shares similarities with the story of Ozark.

Mark your calendars for June 19th because that’s the day Netflix releases the first season of The Waterfront, a series based on a true story.

In his first project with the streaming platform, Kevin Williamson focuses on a family drama set in North Carolina, similar to his earlier work on Dawson’s Creek. However, that’s where the similarities end.

Netflix’s Winning Formula

According to the trailer released by Netflix, The Waterfront leans more toward Ozark—a show about drug trafficking—than Dawson’s Creek. It centers on the Buckley family, who control everything from the local fishing industry to dining establishments.

The patriarch, Harlan Buckley, recovering from two heart attacks, alongside his wife Belle and their son Cane, dive deep to keep their family empire afloat. Despite their efforts, business struggles persist. Harlan then decides to take the reins once again.

Dealing with her own demons, Bree, Buckley’s daughter—a recovering addict who has lost custody of her son—finds herself in a complex relationship that could jeopardize the family’s future forever.

An Exciting Cast

What really catches the eye with The Waterfront is its diverse yet compelling cast. Holt McCallany, known for his roles in Mindhunter and causing trouble for Mickey Haller in The Lincoln Lawyer, plays the family patriarch determined to save his business.

Maria Bello, from NCIS, plays his wife, while Jake Weary (The Walking Dead) portrays his son, and Melissa Benoist (Glee) his daughter. Finally, Topher Grace and Dave Annable (Yellowstone) round out the cast.
