Outlander Spin-Off “Blood of My Blood”: Will It Get a Season 2?

The first season of the “Outlander” prequel wrapped up this weekend with a scene that left viewers eager for more. Will their questions be answered in a potential season 2? Here’s what we know!

WARNING – This article contains spoilers for the final episode of Season 1 of Outlander: Blood of My Blood.

This year, the universe of the hit fantasy and romance series Outlander expanded with the release of a spin-off focused on the parents of Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan).

Titled Outlander: Blood of My Blood, the new series dives into the star-crossed love story between two members of rival clans in the 18th century: Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy).

A Long-Awaited Reunion

While fans were certain that these two would eventually come together to start a family, including giving birth to Jamie, they were curious about how it would happen since Ellen was betrothed to Malcolm Grant (Jhon Lumsden). The season finale, which debuted last Saturday on HBO Max, provided some beautiful scenes of the couple and answered this burning question.

However, their happiness may be short-lived as the season ends with flaming crosses on the horizon, signaling the start of the Jacobite rebellion. Brian will have to fight alongside his clan, and even though Ellen promises to always stay by his side, their future adventures are bound to be tumultuous.

A Massive Cliffhanger

But Blood of My Blood isn’t just the story of Jamie’s parents; it also follows Claire’s! Early in the series, the couple travels through the mysterious stones of Craigh na Dun, just as their daughter will years later, and find themselves back in the early 1700s.

Separated for much of the season, Julia (Hermione Corfield) and Henry (Jeremy Irvine) eventually reunite and make plans to escape their current era. Everything seems to be going well until they realize their newborn, William, might not be able to time travel with them.

As Arch Bug (Terence Rae) and his men close in to capture them, Henry decides to make Julia, who is holding their baby, touch the stone first so she might escape with their child, even if it means sacrificing himself, as shared by his actor in an interview with Elle:

He’s a knight at heart. If he has to sacrifice himself to keep his wife and children safe, Henry is the type of man to do it without a second thought. And I think all parents can relate to that feeling.

Season 2 Is Underway

Moreover, Jeremy Irvine also revealed that the final scene could have been quite different: “We filmed five different endings, and someone writing next to the camera kept handing us script rewrites, saying, ‘Now, try it this way, then this way.’” He added, “So, they had many different options when editing, depending on the direction they decided to take for season 2.” Indeed, while it wasn’t confirmed during the initial shooting of season 1, Blood of My Blood was renewed for a second season last June, before the series even premiered, with filming now ongoing!

Awaiting Answers

This means fans will finally get an answer to the burning question from the last episode: did the Beauchamps manage to cross through the stones and return to the 1920s? Fans of the original series know that precious stones are usually required for time travel, and it’s unclear if Julia and Henry had any when they attempted to escape.

Moreover, the scene cuts off just before we see Julia’s hand touch the stone, shifting to a flashback of the moment Claire’s parents leave her at the train station with her Uncle Lamb before heading to Scotland.

As revealed in Outlander, Claire was raised by this uncle after her parents died in a car accident when she was five. This might mean that Julia and Henry do not make it back to their time… However, fans will have to wait a while longer for clarity as season 2 is not expected until the end of next year or even 2027.

Connections to Outlander Season 8?

It’s possible that the couple might stay in Brian and Ellen’s era and never see their little girl again, but there’s also a chance they travel to a different time, such as that of Outlander Season 8, and meet their adult daughter.

The likelihood of this happening remains slim, but it’s certainly possible that what we’ve learned in Blood of My Blood will have repercussions on the final season of the parent series. For instance, viewers might get answers about Claire’s brother, William, born in the spin-off and never mentioned before! Several theories exist about him: some believe he will be raised by Brian and Ellen and is thus William Fraser, Jamie’s older brother who died in childhood.

Others speculate that William, named Simon Fraser of Lovat by Brian’s father (Tony Curran) who believes he is the father, might be Jamie’s uncle Simon, encountered in Season 2 of Outlander. However, the mystery remains unsolved.

If fans are hoping for answers in the next season of Outlander, it’s because they would like Claire to cross paths with this brother she is currently unaware of. But there’s no guarantee the writers will take that route…

To find out, tune in at the start of 2026 on Netflix for the launch of Outlander’s final season.
