Two years after the cancellation of Blue Bloods, Tom Selleck is publicly expressing his frustration over this decision he finds baffling. Here’s the scoop!
Two years following the cancellation of Blue Bloods, Tom Selleck is still upset over the decision, which he deems grossly unfair. During his appearance on the podcast Everybody Knows Your Name hosted by Woody Harrelson and Ted Danson, the actor vehemently criticized the circumstances surrounding the show’s termination:
“Blue Bloods was a labor of love. I believe that was true for everyone involved. The truth is, in our last year, at our final family dinner, everyone was ready to return for more. We had already agreed to cut our salaries by 25%! We had already accepted so many compromises to keep the show going.”
“It’s Incredibly Frustrating”
“It’s incredibly frustrating because Blue Bloods was still ranked sixth among the top 100 most-watched TV shows even in our fifteenth season,” he shared before adding: “No one wanted to leave. Everyone was willing to continue the journey. It’s hard to make sense of it!”
He continues: “Moreover, I think it was a record to have exactly the same cast from the very beginning after so many years. In other productions, actors might be recast, but since we were playing a family, it was very different and replacing Jamie (Will Estes) or Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) or anyone else with another actor just wouldn’t have worked.”
“There Were Never Any Egos on the Set of Blue Bloods”
One thing is clear, Tom Selleck loved working on the series: “Perhaps people don’t realize, but many series sets become difficult work environments. There are a lot of egos, stories of actors refusing to come out of their trailers unless another actor does so first, and everyone ends up miserable. But that was never the case on the set of Blue Bloods.”
Fortunately, fans can find solace in the spin-off Boston Blue, which has just been renewed for a second season set to premiere on October 9 on CBS.
