Actor George Clooney has revealed himself as a huge fan of “The Pitt,” currently streaming on HBO Max, and has even expressed his interest in joining a future season of the medical drama series!
Devised by R. Scott Gemmill and featuring Noah Wyle, both of whom are alumni of the iconic TV show “ER,” the first season of “The Pitt” has proven to be a massive hit for HBO. Presented in real-time—where 50 minutes of an episode equates to 50 minutes in the lives of the characters—this gripping medical drama was universally acclaimed in 2025 as one of the year’s best shows.
Awarded with 5 Emmy Awards, including Best Drama Series, and highly rated by AlloCiné users with an impressive average of 4.3 out of 5, it has been revealed that among its many fans is none other than “ER” veteran, Mr. George Clooney himself!
George Clooney Praises The Pitt
During a media tour for his movie “Jay Kelly” (set to release on Netflix on December 5, 2025), Clooney praised his former colleague Noah Wyle during an appearance on Entertainment Tonight: “He’s an incredibly honorable and talented young man. I can say this because I’m a man of a certain age, and I’m delighted with his success in the series. It’s a beautiful series, and he’s doing an incredible job.”
Clooney mentioned that he would love to be a part of the series if given the chance, though he admitted he has not yet dared to ask directly: “I would accept [to act in The Pitt] without hesitation. […] [But] it’s Noah’s show. I don’t want to interrupt it. But I am very proud of him, if I may say so.”
Could This Spark an ER Reboot?
Clooney’s statement excited HBO’s CEO Casey Bloys, as he told Deadline: “Of course, he is welcome!”
If George Clooney were to join the cast, then “The Pitt” could ultimately become the long-anticipated reboot of “ER” it was initially conceived as. This idea, however, was eventually scrapped during the writing process because the “reunion” element was overshadowing the series’ new storylines, as Noah Wyle explained to TV Line: “The more we pursued that direction, the more the goal was clouded by elements of reunion, rerun, or reboot. So, I had no regrets when we decided to pivot and find a new way to tell the story.”
The first season of The Pitt is available on HBO Max, and season 2 will be broadcast in January.
