Netflix has just added a chilling and brutal survival thriller to its library, produced by Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Spider-Man), which is not recommended for viewers under 16. Here’s what you need to know about “Don’t Move”.
As Halloween fast approaches, Netflix is gradually expanding its horror movie selection, featuring everything from original works and genre classics to blockbuster hits.
Netflix has recently released a horror thriller produced by Sam Raimi, a renowned master of horror known for the Evil Dead franchise, The Grudge, 30 Days of Night, Drag Me to Hell, and the Spider-Man trilogy.
Written by T.J. Cimfel (V/H/S Viral) and David White (Intruders) and directed by Adam Schindler and Brian Netto (Intruders), Don’t Move is an intense film that promises a unique experience with an original storyline and clever direction.
Don’t Move is set to send shivers down your spine as it’s a survival thriller where the protagonist faces numerous challenges blocking her path to freedom and survival.
A Captivating Conceptual Thriller Worth Watching for Its Cast
The film introduces us to Iris, a young woman still grieving the death of her son Mateo after an accident for which she feels responsible. One morning, she decides to end her life by jumping off a cliff in the forest but is stopped by a seemingly charming man named Richard. He shares that he too has lost someone close, Chloe, his high school girlfriend, in a car accident.
After a lengthy conversation, they head back to the edge of the forest to retrieve their vehicles and part ways. However, “Richard” reveals his true nature as a serial killer and injects her with a paralyzing agent that will take effect in about twenty minutes.
If there was ever proof needed that as a woman, one would always choose a bear when asked whether they’d rather encounter a bear or a man in the forest (referencing a trend on social media), the film Don’t Move is it. Because if Iris had come across a bear in the forest that day, her day would have unfolded quite differently.
Iris now has the brief window of time before her body completely shuts down, leaving her unable to speak or move, to try and escape the clutches of this man. What follows is a fierce struggle for survival.
Don’t Move features a straightforward yet effective and captivating plot, quickly endearing viewers to its heroine. Given the psychopathic, unlikable, and dangerous character of her adversary, viewers will certainly be rooting for her escape.
The performances by Kelsey Asbille (Yellowstone), impressively accurate, subtle, and sensitive, and Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story) are particularly noteworthy in Don’t Move, as they enhance the psychological tone of this horror thriller and the complex power dynamics between the characters.
Like any respectable survival thriller, the heroine does not easily give in, and the film presents numerous situations where she almost manages to escape, leading to a somewhat simplistic yet satisfying conclusion. And all this in the perfect duration for such films, about 1 hour and 25 minutes, providing plenty of good chills for an evening.
Don’t Move is now available on Netflix.
